Funding announced for Tipperary tourism amenity

Suir Blueway

Tipperary Fire Service is looking into purchasing off-road vehicle for Suir Blueway emergencies

Additional funding has been announced to carry out work on the Suir Blueway

Senator Garret Ahearn has welcomed funding of €608,000 for the Suir Blueway to improve a section of the project.

Senator Garret Ahearn said “This is fantastic news for the town of Clonmel. The Suir Blueway is such a great resource for the locals and for tourists visiting the town.”

Senator Garret Ahearn continued “The plans for the Blueway are very extensive in the long term. The hope is to connect it to the Waterford Greenway, then Cahir and Cashel. It would then be possible to cycle from Dungarvan to Cashel.

“The Blueway has received significant funding through Government over the last number of years along with other Greenways and Blueways throughout the Country. In the height of the pandemic, it became clear just how important these amenities are to people and we need to build on that and ensure we invest in them.

“The funding will widen 3km of narrow sections of Blueway between Clonmel & Carrick on Suir in addition to new finger-post trail markers and additional tourist information panels.

“Additionally, Lough Doire Bhile will receive €108,000 to improve accessibility in the Glengoole area. This is an area that is very much used when the weather is good, and it is a lovely walkway.

“Government have committed to preserving and developing our rural amenities through the the Department of Rural and Community Development. This Department has done fantastic work for Tipperary and Towns and villages across the country” Senator Garret Ahearn concluded.
