'It's not the same' - 2FM listeners divided on The 2 Johnnies' replacements

Dubliners Lottie Ryan and David O'Reilly took over the popular 'Drive It' slot after the Tipperary duo's recent exit

'It's not the same' - 2FM listeners divided on The 2 Johnnies' replacements

The new replacements for The 2 Johnnies on the popular RTÉ 2FM drive-time programme have received a mixed reaction from the public.

Lottie Ryan and David O'Reilly were announced as the new presenters of the 3pm to 6pm weekday slot following the shock exit of the Tipperary duo in recent weeks.

It comes following a mass exodus from the station, which saw popular presenters Doireann Garrihy and Jennifer Zamparelli also leaving.

Aifric O'Connell has since presented her first 2FM Breakfast show alongside Carl Mullan and Donncha O'Callaghan, taking over from Garrihy, while Laura Fox has taken Zamparelli's 9am to 12pm weekday slot.

Ryan and O'Reilly's inaugural show - which aired yesterday (Tuesday June 4) - was met with both praise and disappointment from radio listeners, many of whom took to social media to voice their opinions.

An Instagram commenter complained that the new hires - both of whom are from Dublin - have "lost the country listeners".

Another commenter stated, "Just went the exact polar opposite direction! It'll not go well I fear. Completely different listener. G'luck."

Another listener wrote, "Best of luck to you both but not for me."

One fan of The 2 Johnnies commented, "It's not the same without the two lads..." while another wrote, "[sic] Following the lads it's just chalk and cheese."

Another commenter stated, "I tried to listen to them, honestly I did, but had to turn it over. Bring back The 2 Johnnies now."

However, not everyone was disappointed with the change.

One social media user commented, "I must have been the only one who couldn't stand the '2 lads'. Lottie is fab!" while another wrote, "Gas first show."

A commenter stated, "Now that's more like it 2FM! Good luck to both of you."

Another fan of the new presenters wrote, "Good luck to you both, you did a great show!" while another commented, "Whopper start, great show. You're going to do amazing!"
