Tipperary football boss Paul Kelly has stepped aside from his role as senior football manager following today's defeat to Limerick in the preliminary quarter-final of the Tailteann Cup in Rathkeale.
Breaking the news on their social media channels, Tipperary GAA said, "Following today's defeat to Limerick in the Tailteann Cup, senior football boss Paul Kelly has informed Tipperary GAA that he has decided to step down as Tipperary Senior Football Manager.
"Tipperary GAA would like to thank Paul for his contribution to football in the county since being appointed and we wish him the very best of luck in his future endeavours."
Kelly late last year to the role but he stepped into the role after an elongated process to fill the position and he and the team got off to a poor start to the year in Division 4 of the National Football League, winning just one game, drawing one and losing the other five as the Premier finished sixth in the group.
It got worse as the Munster Championship campaign ended before it began with Tipperary losing to Waterford in the quarter-final for the first time in 36 years back in early April.
More recently, Tipperary were defeated by Antrim and Sligo in the Tailtean Cup before they claimed a late win over Wexford in a smash-and-grab win last weekend. However, the season ended in Rathkeale on Saturday afternoon at the hands of hosts Limerick which has signalled the end of Kelly's short tenure in charge.
