Elected on the first count in the Clonmel Local Electoral Area, Cllr Pat English has hit out at what he says is the neglect and downgrading of his home town and the abolition of Clonmel Corporation.

He says that Clonmel’s town centre needs to be upgraded and other amenities in the town improved.

According to Cllr English, funding had been removed from Clonmel and diverted to other parts of the county. As an example, €1.4 million was raised annually in parking charges in Clonmel out of €3 million countywide but that money wasn’t kept in Clonmel.

He says that the same applies to rates, where almost half of the total amount of rates collected in the county was collected in Clonmel but again, that money wasn’t kept in the town.
