Busy road in Tipperary will be closed for two months

The work will improve road safety at Gaelscoil Chluain Meala

A busy road in Clonmel is to close for the best part of two months.

The road in question is Cantwell Street in Clonmel, which links Irishtown to the Western Road.

The road will be closed from Monday July 1 until Wednesday August 28.

The closure is to facilitate the construction of the Safe Routes to School project.

When completed, traffic will be directed one-way in a north-south direction through Cantwell Street from Western Road to Irishtown.

The road surface will be raised at the junction of Cantwell Street, Albert Street and Western Park, and controlled pedestrian crossings will be installed at both sides of that junction, with associated signage and road markings to define the gateway to the school zone.

There will be a dedicated off-street bus set-down area adjacent to Gaelscoil Chluain Meala; and the Cantwell Street/Western Road junction will be improved to include the upgrading and widening of existing footpaths, and the provision of controlled pedestrian crossings.
