A great day was had by all last Sunday in Holycross as thousands descended on the Holycross GAA grounds for a full day of jiving and singing at the Cut Loose Country Music Festival.
After gates opened at 11am on Sunday morning, the grounds quickly began to fill out with festival-goers planting their camp chairs down into the spots with the best view.
By 12:30pm children could be seen playing and laughing in the open areas to the back and side of the field as the first act took to the stage and the front-of-stage square quickly began to fill out with people eager to show off their skills.
Artists on the day included renowned country music acts such as Michael English, Claudia Buckley, Fran Curry and Muriel, Louise Morrissey, Stacey Breen, David James, The Conquerors and Derek Ryan.
Festival attendees had ample choice for refreshments with a Heinken tent, Supermacs and even a tea and sandwiches stand just some of the treats on offer throughout the day.
For a small Tipperary festival, the organisation couldn’t have been to a higher standard.
Cars were carefully guided into plentiful parking, ticket staff met everyone with a smile and some pleasantries and the stewards were out in force across the grounds to make sure everyone was having a good time and a safe time.
One of the artists, Louise Morrissey, commented on social media after the event saying: “It was a great day, great music and fun and no rain!
“Thank you to the the festival committee for having me there again this year, especially Michael Lowry & Valerie O’Reilly...looking forward to next year already xx”
Another, Claudia Buckley, whose rendition of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” was a particular stand out of the day said: “What a day Cut Loose Country Festival one of the best every year, thanks for having me!
“Always great to meet up with one of the ladies I have always looked up to in this business, my friend Louise Morrissey legend!”
Singer David James said: “What a day we had yesterday in Holycross for the Cut Loose festival!
“What a crowd. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
“A huge thank you to Valerie O’Reilly, Michael Lowry TD & all involved for having me along as part of their fantastic festival!”
It’s safe to say that despite threats of bad weather and some looming grey clouds throughout the day, the place was hopping in Holycross for the whole day on Sunday.
Another edition next year would be sure to bring even bigger crowds of country music lovers to Tipperary who will surely be excited to once again get out their cowboy hats, their denims and their dancing boots for another day of tiring their legs out dancing and jiving to the songs of Dolly Parton, Tony Christie, Elvis Preslie, Abba and more sang by another line up of is certain to stellar acts.
