Construction of the new €570,000 Cláirín pedestrian bridge over the railway line in Carrick-on-Suir is due to be finished on August 23.

Carrick Municipal District Engineer Denis Power informed councillors of the finish date for the project at the district’s July meeting in Carrick-on-Suir.

He said Irish Rail will have to inspect and approve the bridge before it can be opened to the public.

The new precast concrete footbridge linking St John’s Terrace with Cláirín housing estate in Carrick-on-Suir replaces an old steel bridge that was demolished in March at the start of the project.

Tipperary County Council received Active Travel Scheme funding from the National Transport Authority to replace the old footbridge that had become dilapidated in recent years.

Triúir Construction Ltd is the contractor for the footbridge project.
