A special day to commemorate the legendary Tipperary singer and poet will take place later this month in Kilbarron Village near where he mused on some of his most famous songs.

"A Day of Commemoration & Celebration of Shane MacGowan" will take place at the Broad Majestic Shannon festival on Sunday the 18th of August at Kilbarron near Nenagh in the north of the county.
The legendary figure was the frontman of The Pogues for decades before forming The Popes. He was well known for playing a number of duets and collaborations also. His loss was keenly felt worldwide and in his native Tipperary.
Shane's sister Siobhan posted about the new festival online and said it will be full of 'dancing at the crossroads' with music, a marquee and refreshments while at 3pm Siobhan MacGowan will dedicate 'The Broad Majestic Shannon' monument to the memory of her brother.
