Tipperary stars selected to take part in Hurling for Cancer Research 2024

Jim Bolger and Davy Russell have announced their teams for Hurling for Cancer Research which takes place in Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow on Monday August 12. Throw-in is at 7pm.

An array of stars from the world of racing, GAA and top sports personalities will be lacing-up their boots for the annual hurling extravaganza between the two teams with Wexford and Kilkenny legends Liam Griffin and Brian Cody acting as Bainisteoirí.

From Tipperary, Shane Long will play with Jim Bolger's Stars, while Euan Murray, Cathal O'Reilly, Neill Ryan, David Doyle and Cian Quirke will play on Davy Russell's Best.

An all-star list of John Kiely, Mark Landers, Jimmy Barry Murphy, Paul Townend, Rachael Blackmore, Bernard Dunne, Cora Staunton, Ursula Jacob, Peter Canavan, Paul Nolan, Michael Darragh MacAuley, Michael Duignan and Joanne O’Riordan are among those stepping up to act as selectors, commentators, side-line officials, umpires and maor uisce.

For the first time, Hurling for Cancer Research will be broadcast on TG4 to a free-to-air audience to maximise coverage of this unique hurling match and help boost donations to the Irish Cancer Society’s vital research projects.

To date, Hurling for Cancer Research has raised an incredible €1.5m for cancer research.

It is a brilliant evening out for all the family and I think those in attendance are guaranteed a great evening. We are also very excited to have TG4 broadcast Hurling for Cancer Research for the first time this year, thanks to the generous support of Fogarty Fenwick and their crew, who like so many, are giving their services and time freely for such a worthy cause."

Gates open at 5pm with pre-match entertainment and refreshments before throw-in at 7pm.
