Cashel was rocking last Wednesday week as the local girls who took part in the World Lyrical Dance Championships in Scotland were celebrated by the townsfolk in fine style after their success in Dundee.

The St Patrick’s Brass Band entertained all and kept spirits high for the celebration of the teams success. Up to thirty Tipperary dancers travelled over to Dundee to take part in a prestigious competition where the Tipperary team were victorious.

The achievements of Clodagh O’Meara Ryan, Aideen Dooley, Ruby Buckley and Kate O’Dwyer were celebrated as a huge turnout heard about how they have worked hard for months on end to perform at the highest level at the WLDF World Lyrical Championships.

Their coach Aoife McNamara explains about the competition: “It was just unbelievable. We are so proud of all the girls.

“We headed over last Wednesday and they competed from Thursday to Sunday so the work paid off and we are so pround of all of them and love this homecoming event here in Cashel this evening.”

The competition includes Scotland, Wales, Netherlands, South Africa and other countries too so it shows the level they are at and how well they can compete and even if we didn’t win we appreciate the effort put in,” she said.

The effort put into dancing is unbelievable. Aoife says they are consistent: “They train all year round. Coming up to the event we trained from Mondays to Fridays non stop so thank God it paid off!”

The ‘On Your Toes Dance Academy’ has studios across the county at Clonmel, Clerihan and Cashel where the coaches and dancers work out of.

At the event on the Plaza Mayor Declan Burgess paid tribute to the teachers and coaches who organised the workouts as well as the dancers and their families.

He described the win as “a huge success” and said that it was wonderful to see such success and see the medals in Tipperary.

The large attendence enjoyed the evening and overall it was a big success. The win over in Scotland is testament to the enjoyment and work of all those involved.
