Tipperary duo walk and cycle over 450km together to raise vital funds for hungry children

Two men have covered hundreds of kilometres across Tipperary as part of a massive fundraiser for charity, joined by a large group of volunteers.

Mary's Meals volunteer Martin Bourke cycled an impressive 270km around North and Mid Tipperary, and fellow volunteer John Egan walked a staggering 200 km from Thurles to Knock, arriving in Knock on August 15th.

The duo completed the lengthy travels as part of a wider Step by Step fundraiser for Mary’s Meals, in which volunteers walked from eight locations around Ireland to raise funds and awareness.

The charity is aiming to raise awareness across Ireland of the plight of starving children in many locations throughout the world.

Other recent lengthy treks completed by Mary's Meals volunteers included a cycle from Mizen to Malin Head, and a hike along the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

In a post on social media, the charity thanked volunteers, saying: "Over the past week, all across Ireland, we've seen an incredible response to this year's Step by Step walk".

"From all those heroes making the Walk to Knock, to our amazing supporters and volunteers who have provided much appreciated support along the routes, the response has been truly inspiring".

The group has raised €2,727 in their most recent campaign, and they are attempting to raise funds to feed children in need in places of education across the globe in an attempt to help people out of poverty.

Those wishing to donate can do so on Mary's Meals GoFundMe, and can follow the group's progress on Instagram.
