RTÉ has unveiled an extensive coverage plan for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, promising its most comprehensive broadcast yet, with Tipperary man Peter Ryan a part of the lineup for the duration.

Running from Wednesday, August 28 to Sunday, September 8, RTÉ will deliver 104 hours of live television coverage on RTÉ2. In addition, the RTÉ Player will offer over 500 hours of live action across four digital channels, allowing Irish viewers to follow every moment of Team Ireland's journey.

Along with Ryan, the coverage team will include a rotating panel of experts, including sports journalist Joanne O’Riordan and former Paralympians Michael McKillop (Athletics), Jason Smyth (Athletics), Niamh McCarthy (Discus), and James Scully (Swimming).

After the excitement surrounding Team Ireland's performance at the Olympic Games, RTÉ aims to keep the momentum going with detailed coverage of the Paralympics. Fans can catch live updates daily on RTÉ2, RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ News, 2FM, RTÉ Player, and RTÉ.ie.

The Games will commence in Paris with a unique Opening Ceremony, departing from the traditional stadium format seen in previous years. Commentary for the ceremony will be provided by John Kenny and former Paralympian James Scully.

Throughout the event, RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player will track the progress of the 35-member Team Ireland, starting each day with live coverage on "Paris Paralympics 2024: Matin." In the afternoons, Daráine Mulvihill will broadcast live from Paris for "Paris Paralympics 2024: Après-midi," while Evanne Ní Chuilinn will provide evening highlights and analysis from Dublin with "Paris Paralympics 2024: Soir."

Declan McBennett, RTÉ Sport's Group Head, emphasized the importance of the Paralympics within RTÉ's Summer of Sport, which also includes the Euros, the GAA Championship, and the Olympics. He highlighted Ireland's strong legacy at the Paralympic Games and RTÉ's commitment to showcasing the dedication and achievements of the athletes.

Reporters Eamon Horan, Siobhan Madigan, and Darren Frehill will deliver coverage from Paris for RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, as well as provide updates on RTÉ Radio 1 programs like Morning Ireland, Today with Claire Byrne, and News At One.

RTÉ 2FM's Game On will summarize the day's events, while RTÉ Radio 1's Saturday Sport and Sunday Sport will offer additional coverage and analysis over the weekend. Raidió na Gaeltachta will also feature updates in sports bulletins and weekend sports shows.

RTÉ Sport will provide real-time reactions from Irish athletes, along with the latest news and updates via RTÉ.ie/Paralympics and the RTÉ News app. Audiences can stay engaged with exclusive content on RTÉ's social media channels.

Ahead of the Games, viewers can watch "Paths to Paris" on RTÉ Player, a four-part series that follows Para-swimmer Nicole Turner and Para-cyclists Katie-George Dunleavy and Eve McCrystal as they strive to qualify for the Paralympic Games.
