More than  €2,000 collected in this Tipperary town on day when parking charges didn’t apply

More than €2,000 was collected in car parking charges in Clonmel on Good Friday, March 29 last - even though parking charges didn’t apply that day.

According to figures obtained by Clonmel man John Williams under the Freedom of Information Act, a total of €2,055.40 was collected by Tipperary County Council.

On the same day, €342.40 was collected in parking charges in Carrick-on-Suir; €804.17 in Thurles, €175.60 in Roscrea, €76.20 in Templemore and €773.60 in Nenagh, even though parking charges didn’t apply in those towns either.

The breakdown of the amount collected in the other other towns in the county on Good Friday wasn’t available.

Despite the fact that parking charges didn’t apply on Easter Monday, April 1, a total of €135.80 was collected in Clonmel; €35.95 in Carrick-on-Suir; €22.30 in Thurles; €6.50 in Roscrea; €14 in Templemore; and €29.15 in Nenagh.

The breakdown of the amount collected by the council in the other towns in the county on Easter Monday wasn’t available.

Meanwhile, parking charges didn’t apply in several towns on the Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate St Brigid’s Day on February 5 last. However, €138.70 was still collected in Clonmel, as well as €4.60 in Carrick-on-Suir, €37.50 in Thurles, €9.50 in Roscrea, €23.15 in Templemore and €29.90 in Nenagh.
