Tipperary County Council has granted planning permission for the first phase of the redevelopment of Market Place in Clonmel that will involve the conversion of a section of the shopping district into office accommodation.
The Council granted final planning approval to Remcoll for the revamp of the block shopping units from the rear of Fennessy's Hotel to the former video shop.
Clonmel Fianna Fáil Cllr Siobhan Ambrose has welcomed the Council's decision which was made on Tuesday (August 27)
“This is a very positive announcement as Market Place is in a central location in Clonmel and many of the units in this block have been empty for several years. The proposed re-development of this block is much welcomed.
She said she had spoken to the owners of Market Place who informed her that now planning permission has been approved they are very anxious to start construction works as soon as possible.
“With construction on the new Garda Station commencing in September and now planning permission granted for phase one of Market Place, it is great to see that these long awaited big projects both of which are in key locations around Clonmel are finally being rolled out.
“I am looking forward to construction works commencing on both of them over the coming weeks,” she added.
