There was huge support for the "Save the Convent for the Community" petition campaign which operated in the community on Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7.
People signed in very large numbers at the designated sites at Centra, Spar and Lidl shops in Templemore, and the tables were available for eight hours each day.
In addition there were petition tables operating outside the churches in Moyne, Templetuohy, Loughmore, Castleiney, Borrisoleigh, Drom, Inch, Killea, Clonmore and Templemore.
There was also an online petition operating under the auspices of the Corca Teíne Facebook page from Friday, September 6, to Monday, September 9.
The total number of signatories in support of saving the Convent for the Community was 3,773.
The organisers would like to thank most sincerely all those who so willingly gave of their time, arranged rosters, and operated the petition tables outlined at all the various locations above.
They say the level of commitment and dedication shown was truly inspiring.
In addition the organisers wish to thank the management of Centra, Spar and Lidl for permission to take up the petition outside their premises and also to the priests of the various parishes where the petition was taken up outside the churches.
The campaign now steps up, and the organisers will keep people informed of developments.
