Tuono Charlie was crowned the 2024 Roma Casino Irish Cambridgeshire 750 champion at Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night.
Trained by Sharon Hunt, this remarkable son of Good News – Farronrory Bonny produced a paw-perfect display over the six-bend contest as he led from start to finish.
Racing from trap two, Charlie made a flying start with a sectional of 12.85 before going on to win by six and a half lengths in 40.97 to Droopys Comrade in second place for trainer Fraser Black.
It was a special performance as it was Charlie’s 16th win in a row and his trainer told us in an interview after the race that they will be announcing his next target very soon but for now it’s top secret!
Tuono Charlie set a new track record in the opening round of this competition clocking a sensational 40.73. It’s a national record!
He has the five fastest times ever recorded for 750 yards in Ireland and six of the top seven. Redzer Ardfert is the only other dog to get close. In fact, 41.00 seconds has only ever been broken seven times with Tuono Charlie responsible for six of them.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for Greyhound Racing Ireland, said: “Tuono Charlie is one of the best greyhounds I have ever seen. To win 16 races in a row is a serious achievement and the greyhound industry are in awe of him. Well done to trainer Sharon Hunt for having him in such good form. We can’t wait to see where he goes next.”
