Progress in resolving the long running concerns about the future of residents currently living in Roscrea's Dean Maxwell Community Nursing Home has been welcomed by local campaigners this week.
Independent Tipperary TD, Deputy Michael Lowry, told the Midland Tribune that he has had intensive discussions with senior personnel in the HSE with a view to getting clarity and secure the position of Dean Maxwell Nursing Unit, Roscrea.
Arising from these conversations, the HSE has confirmed that the Community Nursing Unit, located in the heart of Roscrea in the shadow of St Cronan's Church, will maintain its existing services and remain fully open.
Six staff vacancies will be filled immediately, comprising four nursing positions and two multi Task Attendants, the Tribune can reveal.
"These replacement positions are now sanctioned and funded", Deputy Lowry confirmed.
"All residents currently residing at Dean Maxwell will not be asked to move and will live out their natural lives in the Centre.
"The HSE is committed to keeping Dean Maxwell open into the future with repurposed respite care beds and a modern-day Care Centre.
"The position of all staff will remain unchanged," Deputy Lowry said.
The Tipperary TD added that he had made the delivery of health care for older people in Roscrea a political priority and is "pleased with the progress".
