A controversial new walking route from Solohead all the way through Tipperary Racecourse and Limerick Junction by the N24 has been given the green light in the planning process.

On the agenda at this weeks Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting, those present considered the Draft Chief Executive’s Report PT8TT121 Part 8 focusing on the Development at a walking path from Solohead GAA Pitch to the N24 at Tipperary Racecourse.

Over 200 valid submissions were submitted in relation to this while many local residents had raised concerns about the development, feeling that it might lead to an increase of antisocial behavior in their area among other issues.

A number of deeply concerned locals attended the Council meeting on Monday morning at Rosanna Road and had recently campaigned against the development, however planners felt that the new pathway would be for pedestrians only and said that motorised vehicles wouldn't have easy access to the route thereby reducing potential issues.

They felt that local landmarks would be protected and that concerns raised had been addressed ensuring progression in accordance with the Tipperary county development plan and that the development would not affect Heritage buildings or nature areas.

The controversial near 3 kilometre stretch will be 3 metres across while nearby drainage will be put in place those at the meeting heard.

Chair John Crosse welcomed the detailed report and said that it would take time to put the development in place.
