Seven community projects in south Tipperary secure a share of €251,035 in government grants

Seven south Tipperary community and sports projects secured a share of more than €520,000 CLÁR programme grants allocated to the county this week.

South Tipperary projects secured a total of €251,035 of the county’s €522,397 CLÁR grants allocation.

Newcastle is the biggest beneficiary with three projects in that community securing grants under the scheme that funds small scale projects to improve infrastructure and facilities in rural areas.

A €50,000 grant is being awarded to Newcastle GAA Club to assist with the development of a community walking track.

A further €45,693 is going towards the Suir Blueway in Newcastle and The Lot Community Park in Ballyporeen for the creation of wheelchair accessible facilities and picnic seating at multiple locations.

And Newcastle Muintir na Tíre Community Hall has been approved a €15,016 grant for investment in refurbishing the hall.

Elsewhere in south Tipperary, Ballingarry Community Field has secured a €50,000 CLÁR grant for the installation of tarmac surfacing on an existing car park.

Donohill Community Playground is getting a €47,773 grant for the facility’s refurbishment and Solohead GAA Club has secured €42,553 for the resurfacing of its entrance and car park. Fianna Fáil TD and Independent

TD Michael Lowry have welcomed the latest CLÁR allocation to 13 projects across county Tipperary by the Department of Rural & Community Development.

Deputy Cahill said this funding will significantly improve the lives of people living in rural communities.

Deputy Lowry expressed his satisfaction in supporting many of the organisations with their applications and wished them the best of luck with their developments.

“These projects will greatly benefit our communities by improving accessibility, enhancing recreational facilities, and supporting local sports clubs,” he said.
