Legendary chaser Tiger Roll will be returning to Limerick Racecourse on Sunday 20th October to parade for racegoers ahead of this year’s BoyleSports JT McNamara Munster National.
The now retired superstar chaser is the most famous winner of the Munster National. His show-stopping 7-length victory at Limerick in 2016 was his first big race success over fences in a career that saw the Gordon Elliott trained star go on to win back-to-back Aintree Grand Nationals and become a five-time Cheltenham festival winner.
He’ll be back in the parade ring at approximately 3:20pm, just before the big race gets underway on Sunday.
Michael Lynch, CEO of Limerick racecourse said: “We’re thrilled that racing royalty Tiger Roll will be returning to the scene of the crime on Sunday 20th October for the BoyleSports JT McNamara Munster National. The Munster National was the springboard for his very successful chasing career and we look forward to seeing him at Limerick again.”
Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “We’re very grateful to Michael O’Leary and Gordon Elliott and his team for bringing Tiger Roll back to Limerick to parade for racing fans. He’s a little horse but he’s got a huge personality and we’re sure racing fans will be delighted to see him.”
This year’s BoyleSports JT McNamara Munster National will be an extra special event with local businessman JP McManus and family hosting a charity sweepstake on the race that will see eighteen local charities from the Mid-West region receive a share of close to €40,000.
Each of the lucky charities involved will be matched to a horse in the BoyleSports Munster National. The charity matched to the winning horse will benefit from a €20,000 donation, with 2nd and 3rd place receiving €3,000 and €2,000 respectively. Each of the remaining charities will also receive a €1,000 donation to put towards a specific project or initiative.
Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, Down Syndrome Limerick, Clare Care and the Limerick Youth Service are amongst the eighteen chosen charities in the running.
