Update issued on Bianconi Chapel project in Boherlahan village
As works continue as part of the Bianconi Chapel project in Boherlahan village, a comprehensive report is due to be completed in November.
As the works progress, detailed historical research has been carried out to reveal Charles Bianconi’s original intentions and materials for the chapel.
Next year will be the 150th anniversary of the death of Bianconi, the 19th century pioneer of public transport in Ireland.
A greater recognition and appreciation of Bianconi's legacy, locally and further afield, has emerged from recent activities during Heritage Week and the related talks about Bianconi's life.

Exciting new discoveries have also been made during the project which include a letter in which Bianconi, in his own handwriting, describes his newly built chapel.
The building has recently been surveyed via laser scan both externally and internally, providing accurate information for future works and allowing visibility of the high tower top.
Some initial opening up works internally are intended to commence soon which will provide more information on the conditions of the chapel walls.
The project is on track to produce a conservation report next month.
