A Tipperary-based adult education school has put forward plans to convert a former retail site in Thurles town into a community facility and training centre.
Moorehaven, a Tipperary Town-based group who provide day service for adults with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, have put forward plans to convert the Thurles space into an adult training centre.
In a planning application to Tipperary County Council, Moorehaven detailed that the two-storey building on Liberty Square would be converted from retail use to a "Community Facility and training associated with Moorehaven Centre".
The building, located in Thurles town centre, was formerly an Intersport Elverys sports shop, before the business left the premises in 2018. Intersport Elverys can now be found in Thurles shopping centre.
Moorehaven's plans include a complete change to the site, with both the ground and first floors planned to be converted to social areas, work stations, a canteen and separate office spaces.
The plans also include the installation of a life between the two floors.
Moorehaven currently has day facilities in Tipperary Town and Cashel, with the organisation providing day and residential services to over 120 users and their families through the work of over 80 staff.
