The draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan will be published this Friday, October 25
Carrick-on-Suir’s draft development plan for the next six years will be published this Friday, October 25 and the public will be invited to have their say on its proposals.
The publication of the draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan 2025-2031 is the culmination of six months of data collection, preparation and public consultation.
Tipperary County Council Executive Planner Fergal O'Donnell informed councillors of the impending publication of the draft development plan for the town and its environs at Tipperary County Council’s October meeting in Nenagh.
He said the publication of the draft plan will be followed by six weeks of public consultation during which the public can view the plan and make submissions on its contents. The closing date for submissions will be Monday, December 9.
“During that process the Council will seek to engage with as many people as possible,” he told the Council meeting.
Mr O’Donnell encouraged councillors from Carrick-on-Suir to use their contacts to ensure as many people as possible are aware of the draft plan.
“We will be available throughout the public consultation process if anyone has questions,” he said.
He outlined that at the conclusion of the public consultation process, a Council CEO’s report will be prepared on the submissions the Council received in relation to the draft plan with recommendations for any proposed amendments.
This report will be presented to Tipperary County Council’s January or February monthly meeting for councillors to decide on whether to adopt the plan or amend its provisions.
“If there is a decision to amend the plan, we will have do to another public consultation on those changes that were agreed by the councillors.
“The finalised plan will then be presented to the elected council for final approval,” he explained.
Mr Donnelly indicated the the Council hoped to have the finalised development plan adopted by next May.
Carrick-on-Suir Fianna Fáil Cllr Kieran Bourke said he looked forward to the publication of the draft development plan and asked if there were plans for a meeting with Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District councillors following its publication.
Mr O'Donnell indicated there were plans to organise a workshop prior to the decision on the CEO’s report on the draft Carrick LEA plan but not following the draft plan’s publication.
Cllr Bourke, however, stressed it would be “crucial” for the Council's planners to talk with the local public representatives when the draft plan is published and noted there was an estimated €40m investment from the public purse happening in the town at the moment.
Mr O'Donnell responded that the Council could certainly organised such a meeting with the district’s councillors.
The draft Carrick Local Area Plan will be available to view at Carrick Municipal District’s offices at New St., Carrick, Tipperary County Council's Civic Offices at Emmet St., Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir Library at the Fairgreen from this Friday until December 9 inclusive.
They can also be viewed online on Tipperary County Council’s website: www.tipperarycoco.ie
Your views can be submitted to the Council’s website or posted to Tipperary County Council’s Civic Offices in Clonmel or Nenagh by 4pm on December 9.
