The Oireachtas Literary Award, one of the country's most prestigious literary awards in the Irish language, was awarded to Gabrielle Maher Woeltje in Killarney last week.
Gabrielle, formerly of Ivy Hall, Templemore, received the award for her children’s book, Lughaidh Leabhair, a book for 8–12-year-olds.
Gabrielle is a prolific writer in both Irish and English.
She currently lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and regularly returns to her home in Templemore.
Gabrielle has never forgotten her roots and works hard to promote the Irish language through her children’s books in Irish: Liam agus an Leiprechaun, An Chailleach agus a Cuid Gruaige, Éile an Chead Seilchí, Suaimhneas sa Stabla and Misneach i mBethil, with more titles in the works.
She has also written the definitive and most up to date history of the Maher clan, O Meachair, the Story of a Clan, along with several other works which are all available at Amazon and at the Nenagh Book Shop, 41 Pearse Street, Nenagh.
Gabrielle writes under the pen name, Gabrielle Ní Mheachair.
