TAKE A LOOK: Tipperary jersey officially unveiled in honour of Shane MacGowan

In a heartfelt tribute to the enduring connection between Shane MacGowan and his Tipperary roots, Shannon Rovers GAA has unveiled a Tipperary version of the Shane MacGowan commemorative jersey.

This special release celebrates the legacy of a musical icon whose family has deep ties to the club and the community.

Shane’s great-grandfather, John Lynch, played an instrumental role in the club’s formation, serving as its first chairman and helping to lay the foundation for what Shannon Rovers GAA stands for today.

As a tribute to Shane’s life and legacy, the Shannon Rovers jersey was presented on the altar by Shane’s cousin Lisa Mulvilhil (nee Lynch) during his funeral last year, a gesture that resonated with fans and family alike.

Soon after, fans from around the world reached out to inquire about purchasing the club jersey, leading to the release of a commemorative edition—a tremendous success that underscored Shane’s lasting influence.

With the warm response to the first commemorative release, fans suggested a version dedicated to Tipperary, and the club embraced the idea with the enthusiastic support of Shane’s family.

The new Tipperary jersey has already garnered significant attention online, sparking anticipation among Tipperary fans around the world. The photograph accompanying this article shows Vincent Mulvihill, a current player with the Shannon Rovers intermediate hurling team, proudly wearing the new jersey. Vincent’s connection to Shane is particularly poignant; as previously mentioned his mother, Lisa Mulvihill (nee Lynch), is Shane’s first cousin, and like John Lynch before her, she is actively involved in the GAA club.

This family link, from John Lynch’s role as the club’s founding chairman to Vincent’s current position on the team, weaves a rich tapestry of family and tradition that spans generations.

There is a limited stock of jerseys available pre-Christmas. The jersey can be purchased online through the club web shop shannonroversclubstore.myshopify.com/.
