Local Tipperary drama group set to stage classic John B Keane play

The Multeen Players in Knockavilla are busy preparing for this year’s production, John B Keane’s ‘The Chastitute’, directed by Jim Keane.

John Bosco is a fifty-something year-old bachelor living in rural Kerry.

He has been consigned to a life of celibacy by a combination of religiously inspired guilt, social ineptitude and plain bad luck.

His fate is not, as he explains himself, the lack of effort on his part.

A combination of flashbacks, imaginings, and actual happenings illustrate his endeavours with the opposite sex.

His run of failure continues throughout the play in spite of the efforts of a matchmaker, Mickey Molly, a smooth-talking lothario, Sylvester Brady, and even the advice of the local priest Father Kimmerley.

Audiences will have a terrific time watching sixties Ireland brought to life, from the pen of John B Keane, and under the direction of Jim Keane.

The play runs from Thursday December 5 to Sunday December 8 at 8pm each evening in Knockavilla Community Hall.

Tickets are €10 and are available from Cronin’s Centra and Heffernan’s Foodstore, Dundrum, online from gr8events.ie, or call 087 246 5340.
