Tipperary legend Seamus Callanan has added his substantial firepower to a crack Offaly backroom team after it was revealed by the Irish Independent that the former Hurler of the Year will be coaching at Liam McCarthy level in 2025.
The three-time All-Ireland winner has joined Johnny Kelly’s coaching ticket, where he will work alongside his former Tipperary teammate Brendan Maher and Maher’s brother Martin.
The 36-year-old will take on a role as forwards coach where he will work with exciting young talents such as Charlie Mitchell and Adam Screeney, who have fired Kilcormac-Killoughey into a Leinster club final.
Offaly hurling is riding the crest of a wave after two decades in the doldrums and the move for Callanan will be seen as a further sign of their ambition to kick on to the next level.
Kelly’s men won the McDonagh Cup this year and will play Leinster Championship hurling in 2025, while Offaly also won the All-Ireland U20 title on a heady night at Nowlan Park.
