A candidate that stands out in the Tipperary North constituency is Diana O’Dwyer who has a range of skills and talents which she can bring to the fore should she get elected.

A Dáil researcher for People Before Profit, she feels the time is right now for a profound change of how people vote in Tipperary.

She knows Tipperary well and is a fresh voice to help to harness the desire for change across the country.

On the canvass so many topics come up for candidates but the two most frequently discussed on the doorsteps are the health care and housing crisis.

The much discussed issues in Tipperary and nationwide hospitals are unsolved.

The cost of housing construction and lack of availability of houses causes stress for many.

Her party campaign for change and “would use that wealth to directly build social and affordable housing, clear hospital waiting lists and provide free public childcare and quality education for all”.

“We also need radical climate action that makes people’s lives better, not harder. That means low cost publicly-owned renewable energy, expanded free and frequent public transport and paying farmers properly to protect biodiversity and climate,” she says.

The gender balance is an interesting element of this election and as it approaches Women for Election have pointed out that “it is crucial to our democracy that we improve Ireland’s gender balance in the Dáil”.

“A record 246 women have completed nominations for the General Election,” a recent statement pointed out.

Compared to the previous election that is a +52% increase on the number of women candidates in GE2020 and a remarkable 36% of all candidates running.

This time around there are six seats across Tipperary rather than five in recent times so will a woman or two get elected is a very relevant question?

Overall, the number of seats increased from 160 to 174 seats.

Other candidates for Tipperary North are Justin Roundy Phelan (Non-Party) and Liam Minehan (Non-Party).
