General Election 2024 is throwing up some huge battles to come this Saturday evening in Tipperary North and Tipperary South.

There are some huge shocks coming in Tipperary South and Tipperary North based on the tallies - which are now almost completed for every Local Electoral Area in the two three-seat constituencies of Tipperary South and Tipperary North.

First, Tipperary North, no surprises to see Michael Lowry on course to top the poll in Tipperary for a seventh consecutive General Election and he could possibly reach the quota on the first count.

Labour's Alan Kelly looks to be a sure thing for the second seat and in a shock twist, Fianna Fáil's Ryan O'Meara has blown past the party's stalwart Michael Smith and it looks like 29-year-old will take the third seat in Tipperary North.

Ryan was only elected as a county councillor for the first time back in June in the Local Elections.

In Tipperary South, popular Independent, Mattie McGrath, will top the poll if the tallies come to pass, followed by Fine Gael's Michael Murphy. It will be the first time Fine Gael will have won a seat in Tipperary since 2011.

The battle of the day will be for the third seat in Tipperary South and it is too close to call right now.

With 98% of the boxes opened and tallies counted, Fianna Fáil's Imelda Goldsboro (5,626) looks to be in the third seat position based on first preference votes.

However, two left-leaning candidates follow close behind and are both within a thousand votes of Goldsboro.

Independent Seamus Healy is on 4,656 in fourth place according to the tallies and Martin Browne of Sinn Féin is on 4,647.

With the eventual elimination of either Healy or Browne as the counts progress, their transfers could push the other candidate past Goldsboro and into the third seat.

All to play for here in Tipperary as we go into Saturday evening.

The first count is expected around 7pm.
