Students of the Presentation Secondary School, Clonmel were honoured by the former Mayor of Clonmel, Michael Murphy at a Mayoral reception at the Town Hall to recognise the work of the school’s Student Council, as well as its recent winners from the Awards for Excellence 23/24.
In one of his last functions as Mayor before his election to Dáil Eireann, the Mayor welcomed the school’s students and staff to the Town Hall.
Denis Holland, a member of the school’s Board of Management, gave a brief history of the Town Hall to the students and the establishment of Clonmel Corporation.
The Mayor congratulated the students on their outstanding successes.
He said he was delighted to see the awards acknowledge the tremendous achievements of the students across the whole spectrum in education in the school.
These awards also recognise that the pursuit of excellence is not confined to academic achievement but encompasses the whole range of activities that makes for a rounded and balanced education.
He congratulated the senior management team, teachers and students on continuing to create a centre of excellence for girls in Clonmel.
He also commended everyone for keeping the unique “Pres Ethos” alive in modern times.
The Mayor extended a special welcome to the members of the Student Council and congratulated them on their excellent work in the school.
Michael O’Loughlin, Principal and Sara Hanly Rooztavan, President of the Student Council, replied on behalf of the school.
The school extends sincere thanks to Mayor Michael Murphy for hosting the reception and it was a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
Thanks are also extended to Mairead Fennell, the awards co-ordinator, for organising the event on behalf of the school.
Presentation Secondary School congratulates Michael Murphy on his election to Dáil Eireann and wishes him well in his new role.
The school also congratulates Seamus Healy on his election to the Dáil, as Seamus’ sister Sr Anne Healy is a member of the Board of Management, and his four daughters are all past students of the school; and Mattie McGrath, whose daughters, Cllr Máirín and Caelainn, are past students of the school.
