The cover of the new book
The Many Places of Cashel and District, Ancient and Modern is a tribute to the imagination and energy of Cashel native, Johnny Fogarty.
Seven years ago, at the age of 87 years, Johnny came to the conclusion he was running out of activities to fill his days, and came up with
the idea of making scaled models in wood of the built heritage of Cashel, not only the major monuments in the town, but many minor structures as well.
To date he has made models of 37 buildings, and he has no intention of stopping yet. His daughter, Olive, who helped her dad paint the models and friend and dedicated historian, Seamus King, decided that his work deserved a permanent monument and this is the result.
The collaboration between both men which details the history of buildings in and around Cashel is now available in local outlets.
