Simon Setikas was selected on the Irish Under 13 team that competed in the Swedish Youth Games
Under 13 player Simon Setikas struck a blow for badminton in Tipperary with several successes in 2024.
The highlight for the Nenagh Club player came in the Victor Irish Nationals in October when he teamed up with Mark Ryan to win the Boys Doubles.
He also reached the final of the Mixed Doubles, but unfortunately he and Mairead O’Sullivan lost out.
He won a third medal at the Irish championships when he took bronze in the singles.
Earlier in the year he won the Mixed event and was runner-up in the Doubles at the Connacht Open.
His success continued at the Munster Closed Under 13 championships when he won the Singles and Mixed and was a runner-up in the Doubles.
He also played in the Under 13 Ulster Open when he had runner-up finishes in the Singles, Doubles and Mixed.
Simon’s good form was rewarded in November when he was selected on the Irish Under 13 team that competed in the Swedish Youth Games.
Simon has won an Annerville Sports award, which will be presented to him by the Tipperary United Sports Panel at a function at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel on Saturday night January 25.
Tickets for the event are available from Sports Panel member Ken Conway, email conwayken@eircom.net
