The large crowd that gathered at the gates of Ormond Castle on Christmas morning to take part in Carrick Road Runners annual GOAL Mile walk/run
Carrick-on-Suir Road Runners’ annual GOAL Mile attracted its largest turnout ever and is expected to bring the town’s contribution to the international humanitarian response agency over its 18 year history past the €100,000 mark.
The Christmas Day walk/run in Carrick-on-Suir town centre that started at the gates of Ormond Castle, was blessed with mild dry weather conditions, which boosted the numbers taking part.
“We had the best turnout ever. The weather was fantastic on the day and it has been for the past few years,” said Margaret Power of Carrick Road Runners.
The walkers and runners were treated to mulled wine, tea, coffee and Christmas cake at the end of their mile long walk/run through the town.
Margaret’s late husband Bobby founded Carrick’s GOAL Mile in 2007. He passed away in 2011 and Carrick Road Runners, which Margaret was involved in, took on the mantle of continuing the charity event.
Margaret said €94,436 has been raised for GOAL since the town’s first GOAL Mile in 2007 and it's expected last month’s event will bring that tally to over €100,000.
