Munster U16A Camogie Championship - Preliminary Round
Tipperary 1-10
Limerick 2-4
This was an even and exciting contest throughout. The Limerick girls got off to a dream start when a speculative ball into the Tipperary defence broke kindly to Limerick corner forward Sarah Ryan who pulled on the ball in the small square and finished it to the Tipperary net.
Two minutes later a shot for a point from Limerick midfielder Katherine Leddy deceived the Tipperary defence and the ball ended up in the net.
Limerick added two points before the break but the Tipperary girls dug deep against the wind and two excellent points, one from Lily O’Donoghue and a free from Sinéad O’Dwyer along with a superb goal from play from Saoirse Ryan brought the Tipp girls to within one score at half time 2-2 to 1-2.
Tipperary were the better team in the second half but it took them until the 53rd minute to draw level after Limerick had scored two more points leaving the score 2-4 to 1-7.
The Tipp girls finished in whirlwind fashion with three more points before the final whistle. Sinead O’Dwyer was superb on frees and 45s converting six in all, from various angles. Lily O’Donoghue scored two more points from play and the lively sub Sara Jayne Ormond also scored a fine point leaving the Tipperary girls looking forward to a Munster final versus Cork next weekend.
