Five new potential sites for burial grounds identified in Tipperary

Tipperary County Council is currently assessing several locations as potential burial grounds in the future.

At present, five locations have been identified as possible sites for burial grounds.

The identified sites are in Borrisoleigh, Holycross, Thurles, Templemore and Roscrea.

The information was presented at the recent meeting of the Thurles Municipal District of the Tipperary County Council, under the Environment and Climate Action Plan.

In Holycross, a new lawn cemetery section and urn plot section will be completed, with urn plot memorial plaques to be constructed in the first half of 2025.

At the St Patrick’s site in Thurles and the St Joseph’s site in Templemore, capital funding has been allocated for 2025 towards the provision of lawn cemetery plinths and urn plot plinths.

At the St Cronin’s site in Roscrea, capital funding has been allocated for 2025 towards the provision of plinths and urn plot plinths.

Regarding the Borrisoleigh land, the Plan outlines that: “Hydro-geological Constraint Study was completed to identify potentially suitable Burial Ground sites in vicinity of the Village. All landowners have been consulted with regard to TCC acquiring lands for the development of a Burial Ground. To date TCC has not secured a site for a Burial Ground.”
