Presentation Secondary School in Clonmel recently held the official opening of the school’s new all-weather pitch, following the presentation of medals to the school’s successful Munster winning teams in Senior Football and Camogie last year.

Michael O’Loughlin (Principal) thanked several people for their help in getting the project over the line. He said the official opening marked five years of hard work in getting the project completed.

He gave a special mention to Cllr Máirín McGrath, Cllr Seanie Power, the Presentation Sisters, especially Sr Mary McDermott; Geraldine Boland from Clonmel Hockey Club and the Department of Sports and Tourism, in relation to the Sports Capital section.

Mr O’Loughlin thanked Peter Morrissey, Lead Architect, for his unwavering support and professionalism in the project, supported by Martin Peters (civil engineer) and Andrew Weight (electrical engineer).

He also expressed gratitude to Premier Pitches for delivering such an exciting project for the school; Clonmel Hockey Club and the community of Clonmel.

The international-standard pitch is a great addition to the school facilities and is a great addition for the students and staff in the school.

This new facility will provide a reliable and high-quality space for sports and physical activities, regardless of the weather conditions.

Students will benefit from increased opportunities for outdoor exercise, which is essential for their physical health and well-being.

Additionally, the pitch will support a variety of sports.

Overall, this new pitch will enhance the students’ educational experience by promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

The project cost over €720,000, and with a number of different contributions from all partners involved already received, the school will be embarking on a campaign of fundraising to cover the final cost of €100,000.
