Tipperary soccer player Lee Grace was part of an historic night for Dublin club Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Europa League last night.

The first League of Ireland club to reach the knockout stages of a major European competition, Rovers sprung a surprise by beating ten-man Molde 1-0 in Norway on a night when 16-year-old Michael Noonan became the youngest goalscorer in the history of European club competition, since the formats changed in 1992.

The record was previously held by Romelu Lukaku.

Carrick-on-Suir player Lee Grace played in the back five, as Rovers secured a famous victory.

Molde's Valdemar Lund was sent off three minutes before half-time for bringing down Michael Noonan, as the teenager raced towards goal.

Rovers will be looking to seal a place in the last 16 when they host Molde in the second leg next Thursday, a game that's expected to attract a 10,000 sellout attendance at Tallaght Stadium.

The winners of the tie will play either Cercle Brugge or Legia Warsaw in the next round.

Rovers face Dublin rivals Bohemians on Sunday in their opening game of the new League of Ireland season at the Aviva Stadium, which is expected to host an attendance of 30,000.
