Professor will deliver lecture at historical society in Tipperary

The lecture will be held at the Main Guard in Clonmel

Traolach O’Riordan, Professor of Irish Studies in Montana State University, will speak on “Thomas Francis Meagher’s war in Montana: breaking the power of the Black Republicans in Montana,” at the February lecture of Clonmel Historical and Archaeological Society.

The lecture will be held in the Main Guard at 8.15pm this Monday night, February 24.

Meagher, a Democrat, became Secretary of State of Montana Territory and Acting Governor after the Civil War in 1865.

In the 1860s Montana had a large Irish population and today has a significant Irish heritage.

Membership renewals and new memberships for Clonmel Historical and Archaeological Society cost €10.
