Heartbreak for Tipperary player and Irish hockey team

Caoimhe Perdue from Cashel was part of the Irish Women’s Hockey team that travelled to Santiago, Chile for the FIH Hockey Nations Cup.

Ireland began their FIH Hockey Nations Cup campaign in Santiago with a 3-0 win against Scotland.

Ireland then went on to play a tense encounter with New Zealand in their second Pool B match, which resulted in a 1-0 victory.
Their last match in the pool games was against Korea, and Ireland took maximum points as they topped their pool in the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in Chile.

It was then onto a semi-final against the United States.

It was a close game but Ireland eventually came out on top and secured a place in the final.

However, the Ireland women were left very disappointed after the FIH Hockey Nations Cup final, losing to New Zealand on penalty shootouts.

New Zealand led early in the game, scoring after five minutes.

Ireland drew level with just four minutes remaining, with Katie Mullan firing into the back of the net to force the shootout.
However, New Zealand eventually prevailed and won 4-2 in the shootout and Ireland received the silver medal in the competition.

Ireland Women will now regroup, and begin preparations for their next assignment, the 2025 EuroHockey Championships, with the tournament taking place from August 8-17 in Monchengladbach, Germany.
