Temporary traffic lights causing traffic tailbacks in a busy Tipperary town are set to be removed for the weekend.
The traffic lights on the N74 in Tipperary Town have been installed as contractors carry out roadworks on a section of the road, but have been leading to traffic disruption in the town which sees over 80,000 vehicles pass through it every day.
The traffic lights are set to be removed this afternoon until 9am on Wednesday, March 19, with hopes that they will also be removed from March 21 to 23.
The contractor has also been asked to pause plant machinery movements at peak times of the day to try and alleviate traffic build-up.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Annemarie Ryan said in a post on social media that the contractors are hoping to have the N74 reopened to two-way traffic within the next seven or eight weeks, with the works running well ahead of schedule.
"N74 Crogues Hill and the stretch from Lidl to the roundabout will be completed near the end of the roadworks," Cllr Ryan said.
"I've been consistently raising issues about traffic tailbacks, but more so since the N24 roundabout works started last week. It has been very hard for residents on the N74, and those living and having to travel along the Knockanrawley Road route.

"I have also asked the contractor also to pause their plant machinery movements at key peak rush hours as it adds to people's frustrations," the Sinn Féin councillor added, saying that a bypass for Tipperary Town remains one of her top priorities.
