Speed ramps are needed either side of the upgraded pedestrian crossing to slow traffic, says Cllr Siobhán Ambrose

A new application for funding for an upgraded pedestrian crossing in Lisronagh village, between Clonmel and Fethard, will be made in 2026.

This was stated by District Engineer Gillian Flynn in a report to a meeting of Clonmel Borough District.

She stated that a funding application for the Low Cost Safety Improvement Works programme had been submitted in 2025.
However, no funding was received in the recently-published allocations.

The engineer’s report also stated that a speed survey carried out at this location in April of last year recorded the 85th percentile speed in excess of the 50 kilometres per hour speed limit (ie the value where 85% of all measurements were over the speed limit, and 15% of measurements were under it).

Ms Flynn stated that a design for the new pedestrian crossing would be completed in line with the council’s Traffic Calming Policy.

Cllr Siobhán Ambrose said that the council should raise this issue with the Department of Transport. There was a school in the village and residents had to cross the road.

There was a lot of concern about the speed of the traffic travelling between Clonmel and Fethard.

In the interest of safety, Cllr Ambrose had requested that, where possible, the pedestrian crossing should be upgraded to include a raised platform, new lighting and speed ramps either side of the platform.
