Over €160,000 awarded in community grants in one Tipperary district

Over €160,000 was allocated by the Thurles MD for community grants

Over €160,000 in community grants has been awarded in one Tipperary district.

The Thurles Municipal District has announced that €164,165 has been awarded across the district in various forms of grant funding.

The largest amount was allocated for festivals and events, with €41,490 allocated for community festivals and events across the district.

This was closely followed by the amount put towards burial ground grants, with €40,600 allocated for this.

€39,352 was given to Tidy Towns grants, €27,150 was allocated for sports club grants, while €15,600 was allocated to residents estate grants.

Approval of the Community Grant payments has been warmly received by councillors and council personal alike, as a welcome recognition of the work that is carried out by our community groups.

Cathaoirleach of Thurles Municipal District, Councillor Michael Smith said that the allocations will help to deliver improvements in local areas throughout the district.

"I am very pleased to say that the Elected Members of Thurles Municipal District have approved Community Grant payments for all the hardworking community and voluntary groups in our District.

"This funding is very much welcomed by the groups and it will help to deliver significant improvements across the rural areas, the villages and the towns of our District," Cllr Smith added.

Sharon Scully, District Administrator, Thurles Municipal District said: "I very much welcome the approval of the Community Grant Payments for 2025 and would like to thank the Members of Thurles Municipal District for their commitment and enthusiasm and for recognising the very important role that our community groups play in this District. Funding to this level is possible only because of hard budgetary decisions made by our Elected Members each year."
