Serious concern expressed about driving test route in this area of Tipperary

A resident of Abbey Meadows in Clonmel has written to the Road Safety Authority (RSA), strongly urging that the Cahir Road, Clonmel estate be removed from all driving test routes, in the interest of safety.

The resident, who doesn’t wish to be named, says that Abbey Meadows is a residential estate where over fifteen young children under the age of ten regularly play outside.

“It is completely unacceptable that a state body, charged with promoting and ensuring road safety, would select an estate like ours - full of vulnerable young children - as part of a driving test route.

“This practice not only poses an unnecessary and grave risk to the lives of children, it also causes considerable distress to the residents of the estate.

“Learner drivers, by their very nature, are not yet fully proficient or confident in their driving skills. Exposing our youngest and most vulnerable citizens to increased traffic from drivers under test conditions is both reckless and irresponsible.

“It is only a matter of time before a serious or even fatal accident occurs if this situation is not addressed immediately.

“The lives and safety of our children must come before administrative convenience or logistical considerations,” the resident added.
