One-day blues-rock music festival in Tipperary will be curated by Crow Black Chicken

Crow Black Chicken will curate Chicken Stock at The Railway Bar in Clonmel next Saturday, July 19

A signature one-day music bash set in Clonmel, Chicken Stock is firmly rooted in blues‑rock heritage and curated by the band Crow Black Chicken.

The event, which has been described as “a celebration of raw riffs, foot-stomping rhythms and community spirit,” will be held at The Railway Bar next Saturday July 19.

Crow Black Chicken are a three-piece blues-rock band from Cork and Clonmel, whose line-up includes Christy O’Hanlon (vocals, guitar), Stephen McGrath (bass) and Gev Barrett (drums, vocals).

The one-day festival in Clonmel is one date in the band’s jam-packed Ghost Dance tour, promoting their new album of the same name.

The tour has seen them play the likes of The Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon, Blues on The Bay in Warrenpoint and Dundalk’s Blues Festival in Toales Bar so far.

‘Ghost Dance’, produced by Philip Magee, is the band’s first studio album in nine years and has been warmly received by fans new and old, and recently received an 8.5 out of 10 rating from Maximum Volume.

They will be joined in the line-up at Chicken Stock by Inside, Cillian Maher, The Benedictine Duo, Twiggy, Pádraig Dargan, Stewart Connolly, Stone Cold Hobo, Fair Warning, Porcelain Eyes, Static Haze, Moonchild; Ross Dave and Eamon and Charcoal Greys.

Crow Black Chicken describe themselves as a hybrid of Gov’t Mule, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Led Zeppelin.

Since forming in 2009, the band has played BBC Introducing at Glastonbury (2011), performed to packed audiences across Europe, released three studio albums and two live albums, and had the honour of supporting the legendary ZZ Top in Cork in 2016.

The band released their debut album in 2012, produced by Philip Magee (Kodaline, Aslan, The Blizzards), which served as a powerful first impression to the ground-shaking trio.

Their second album, ‘Rumble Shake’ solidified their name in Ireland’s humble but mighty blues history book, debuting at number 12 in the Irish album charts.

Recorded in the famous Westland Studios in Dublin, the album was a compelling roots and blues affair, heavily influenced by the band’s work with Texan Americana singer Ray Wylie Hubbard and legendary Austin producer, the late George Reiff.

2015 saw the release of the band’s first live album, ‘Deep South’, which was noted amongst the top five live albums of the year by Classic Rock Blues.

One year later, a support slot at The Marquee in Cork brought them face to face with Texan compatriots ZZ Top, with whom they often drew so many comparisons.

Determined to hone their unique brand of blues rock, Crow Black Chicken continued to tour across Europe, releasing their third studio album ‘Pariah Brothers’, winning the top band award at Skegness Rock and Blues Festival and headlining HRH Blues in the years that followed.

They are appearing at Geoff’s Cafe Bar in Waterford tonight, Saturday.

After Chicken Stock, they will perform at the Open Air Blues Festival in Brezoi, Romania, on Wednesday July 23, followed by the 7 Hills Festival in Armagh on Friday, August 1, and an appearance at The Jester Bar in Westport on Friday, September 12.
