The iconic Jim O' The Mills Pub

The Sunday Times has just released the first edition of its '50 Best Irish Pubs' list and I'm sure to no one local's surprise, Jim O' the Mills in Ballyboy, Upperchurch has made the number 3 spot!

Orla Ryan in The Times writes: "Tucked away on the outskirts of Upperchurch village near Thurles, Co Tipperary, this beguiling 19th-century roadside pub — once an old mill — opens its doors just one night a week: Thursdays, when it comes alive with craic and ceol. A favourite of the Hothouse Flowers frontman Liam Ó Maonlaí, the quaint pub is packed to the rafters with local characters and talented musicians. It’s a cherished spot for expats craving a taste of old Ireland, and the proprietor, Jim, is never far from a good song or a yarn. Don’t bother bringing a card — there’s no machine, and the nearest ATM is anyone’s guess. Cash is king, and its isolation is part of the charm."

A fantastic achievement for a true Tipperary institution and one that's surely going to have Upperchurch buzzing with a few more visitors on Thursday nights!
