Over 180 submissions have been received by Tipperary County Council on Clonmel BID by the close of the public consultation last Friday.
Another Tipperary TD has come out in support of a proposed new businesses investment scheme for Clonmel.
Fine Gael TD for Tipperary South, Michael Murphy, has today made a formal submission to Tipperary County Council in relation to the Clonmel BID's proposal as part of the Public Consultation.
Over 180 submissions have been received by Tipperary County Council on Clonmel BID by the close of the public consultation last Friday.
In a statement made today Deputy Murphy said: "The Business Improvement District (BID) model is not about shifting responsibility or imposing unnecessary costs — it’s about empowering local businesses to take charge of their own trading environment and create a thriving, attractive town centre.

"In Sligo, for example, the BID has transformed the town’s profile and atmosphere: coordinated marketing campaigns have brought in new visitors, targeted events have boosted footfall, and improved streetscapes have enhanced the shopping and dining experience. Businesses there have seen tangible returns on their contributions through increased trade and a stronger sense of community purpose.
"A BID for Clonmel would mean a dedicated, business-led team focused solely on delivering projects that matter to local traders, from better promotion to cleaner streets, improved lighting, seasonal events, and stronger digital presence.
"Far from replacing Council services, a BID supplements and amplifies them — it’s an investment that businesses decide on, design, and directly benefit from. It’s about creating a Clonmel that attracts customers, retains talent, and makes local enterprise stronger, together.

"Ultimately it will be the businesses and rate payers that decide. Just trying something different," he concluded.
Every ratepayer in Clonmel will have the chance to vote yes or no for a Clonmel BID. Postal ballots will be issued on January 5 and the ballot closes on January 22.
