Nenagh Ormond Brass Band will travel to Cobh, County Cork, on Saturday, September 13, to take part in an afternoon of live band music.
Also performing at the event will be the local Cobh Confraternity Brass and Reed Band and St John’s Band, which is celebrating an impressive 160 years since its founding.
The event is being organised by the Cobh Confraternity Band, with support from the Arts Office of Cork County Council and Cobh Tourism.
Following lunch, the bands will perform individually on the bandstand in John F. Kennedy Park, Cobh.
The highlight of the day will be a massed bands performance featuring all three groups—Cobh, Nenagh, and St John’s—on the Port of Cork quayside.
This final performance is timed to coincide with the departure of the Regal Princess cruise ship, which will have 3,600 passengers and crew on board.

Nenagh Ormond Brass Band plays an important role in the cultural life of the North Tipperary area. Over the years, it has performed at many local events and taken part in various fundraising efforts.
The band was officially reformed in 1977, but Nenagh’s brass band tradition goes back much further. A brass and reed band was active in the town during the 1940s, and according to archives from the Nenagh Guardian, a new brass band was formed in 1925. Earlier references suggest that a band existed in the town as far back as the late 1800s.
The upcoming trip to Cobh is expected to be a memorable and exciting occasion for everyone involved.
