Aimee O Brien's family and friends are holding a fundraiser to raise money to cover the cost of her care going forward.
A fundraising event has been organised in Tipperary to raise money for Aimee O’Brien, a young girl who is living with a devastating spinal injury.
“She was only 20 years old when last September her life changed forever due to a devastating spinal injury, diagnosed as Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematoma,” explains Aimee’s family.
“Aimee woke in the middle of the night and couldn’t move anything from her neck down due to the spontaneous and extremely rare bleed to her spine, she received emergency surgery but there was irreversible damage. Aimee is now living with quadriplegia—paralysis from the chest down that also affects the use of her hands. She is dependent on a wheelchair and is adjusting to a completely different life from the one she knew as a college student - working part time and enjoying life with her friends.

“Aimee will need intensive rehabilitation and support going forward. She has lost a great deal of independence and is now facing enormous obstacles just to carry out everyday tasks we take for granted.
“Our family is doing everything we can, but we can’t do it alone.
“Any support you can offer—no matter how small—will make a meaningful difference in Aimee’s recovery and quality of life.

“This is where we need your help and support,” explain the organisers of the fundraiser.
The fundraising event will take place on October 24 2025 in the Ballykisteen hotel and golf resort and will include a live band (SMASH HITS) and a Dj to follow.
The organisers are hoping to have lots of raffle prizes on the night also to boost fundraising and would be grateful if any person could donate some spot prizes for the night.
Aimee’s family and friends are hoping that 20 sponsors at €100 each will come forward and donate to the cause.
“If you could help with that we would really appreciate it. However anything big or small would be greatly appreciated. We are also looking for items for spot prizes for a draw on the night,” the family says.
Tickets for the night are available on www.eventbrite.ie
“Please also tell family or friends. Your donation will have a direct impact on Aimee’s life and her journey through rehab. Every penny raised on the night will go towards Aimee’s recovery—helping with the cost of private rehabilitation, therapies and the support she needs day to day,” explain the organisers.
