If successful, the club would use the funding to upgrade the facilities of their home pitch in Redmondstown, Clonmel, benefitting the team and the community as a whole
Clonmel-based junior football team, Powerstown Football Club, are in the running to win a competition for sports clubs in the south-east of Ireland.
Powerstown, who play in Division 1 of the Tipperary Southern and District League, face competition from 10 other clubs to win the cash price of €2,000.
Founded in 2020, they initially played on a pitch in Ferryhouse and struggled to fulfil fixtures. Since then, they have grown into a fully fledged club with its own pitch in Redmondstown.

Despite its short history, Powerstown FC has enjoyed unprecedented success, achieving back-to-back promotions to reach Division 1, winning the Division 3 Shield and League (2021-22 season) as well as the Division 2 Shield (2023-24 season) along the way.
“Being nominated is indicative of the success the club has had, despite being only five years in existence” said player/manager Nicholas Ryan.

“Powerstown has an excellent sporting heritage,” said Ryan. “The area has had residents who have excelled in many sports at home and abroad. Winning this award would help us to live up to this legacy and allow us to represent our home to the best of our ability”.
He said that, if successful, the club would use the funding to upgrade the facilities of their home pitch in Redmondstown, benefitting the team and the community as a whole.
This will help Powerstown to achieve their aims of promotion to the Premier Division and enter a team in the Youth division.
The winners are decided by public vote, which closes next Wednesday, October 8.
