The company, which operates alongside Kilkenny Nutritional Ltd, is in the running for the Single-Use Plastics Award, sponsored by the Department of Climate, Energy, and the Environment.

The nomination acknowledges Glenpatrick’s efforts to cut single-use plastics by redesigning its PET bottles, switching to clear caps and increasing the use of reusable pallets.

Since 2017, the Clonmel plant has sent no single-use plastics to landfill. The company is now working towards using 60 per cent recycled PET, expanding its reusable transit packaging and introducing digital traceability to help create a closed-loop recycling system.

The Repak Resource Awards, formerly known as the Pakman Awards, honour businesses and community groups showing leadership in waste prevention, reuse and circular design.

Two new categories have been introduced this year: the Circular Community Award and the Circular Design Award, which highlight innovation in sustainable design and local environmental action.

Twelve category winners will be announced at a ceremony in The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, on Thursday, October 23.

Each will be eligible for the Overall Repak Resource Award, which recognises exceptional achievement in recycling, waste management and environmental innovation.
